Sales Training: Understanding Our Three Treatment Levels
Our goal is to recommend the appropriate treatment for the pest issue, explain our approach clearly, and set accurate expectations. These are Naturalcare’s treatment levels, not an EPA rating system.
Level 1: Botanical-Based Treatment
Our standard starting approach for general pest concerns uses botanical-based products. Products that meet all FIFRA Section 25(b) requirements are exempt from federal EPA registration. That exemption does not mean a product is risk-free or individually approved by the EPA.
Client wording: “We start with botanical-based treatments when appropriate for the pest issue. Your technician will explain any preparation and precautions needed for your family and pets.”
Level 2: Targeted Treatment Options
When pest activity or conditions call for a different approach, our technicians may select additional products suited to the problem. Only describe a product as EPA-designated ‘reduced risk’ after verifying that designation for the specific use. ‘Reduced risk’ and ‘minimum risk’ are not interchangeable terms.
Client wording: “If the initial approach isn’t enough, our technician may recommend another targeted treatment based on the pest activity and conditions at your home.”
Level 3: Conventional Treatment Options
For severe or persistent infestations, we may use conventional products, including synthetic pesticides. Product selection, application, protective equipment, and precautions depend on the specific product label and treatment conditions, not simply the level number.
Client wording: “For more challenging infestations, we have additional treatment options. Your technician will explain the recommended approach and any instructions you’ll need to follow.”
Important reminders for sales:
- Never promise that a product is harmless, risk-free, or completely safe for children or pets.
- Do not promise that protective equipment is unnecessary.
- Refer product-specific safety, pet, and re-entry questions to the technician using the actual product label.
- Do not use the ‘99%’ success claim unless we have records supporting it.
